Yoron island was the sounthernmost tip of Japan between 1945-1972, when Okinawa was US territory. So at that time it must have been a very touristy summer vacation spot, but today everyone goes to Okinawa to relax so it is a small and dreamy island with closed or empty hotels but many sea turtles nesting undisturbed on the beautiful shores.
The island belongs to Kagoshima prefecture today, but it's culture and scenery is very Okinawan.
The trip takes about 2hs by boat from Unten Port, northern Okinawa.
The music is from a CD we were presented by a lovely couple on the island. It is played on a very special instrument called Hang.
We did this video with Hunor for fun and practice, to get used to the camera, the editing program and each other at work.
2011年の夏、木村浩子と樋高知子のおかげで与論島を訪ねて来ました。樋高さんと木村さんは二人とも作家で、その時一緒に本を書いたところでした。
1945から1972、沖縄はアメリカ領域の時代、与論島は日本の一番南の島でした。その時、夏はにぎやかだったはずが、今は観光客が皆沖縄に行きますので、与論島は静かです。静かだからこそ、美しいビーチに卵を生むため、ウミガメがたくさん来ます。
与論は今日鹿児島県に属しますが、文化と景色は沖縄とかわりません。旅は船で運天港から約二時間かかります。
BGMの音楽は与論島で知り合った優しいカップルからもらった音楽です。ハングという独特な楽器です。
このビデオを練習のため作りました。フノルがカメラに慣れたくて、私は編集ソフトに慣れないといけませんでした。そして、お互いの取材のやり方も少し分かってきました。
