BINGATA 紅型

Today I post a video with Rei Ishida's thorough explanation on how to make bingata. (I am sorry there are no English subtitles to the video yet). It was filmed in the Shiroma Bingata Studio, one of the oldest workshops in Okinawa, Shuri. Rei Ishida was working there for ten years. She is a very talented young artist, has won the best design price at the Ryukyu Bank Bingata Contest (a big yearly contest for innovative young artists) in 2011. This year she moved back to her home, Ooita (Kyushu) and started her own studio.

今日は石田麗による紅型の工程の説明ビデオをアップします。ビデオ撮影は城間紅型工房で行いました。城間工房は首里城の近くにあり、沖縄の一番古い歴史のある伝統工房の一つです。石田麗は10年ほどこの工房で働きました。すばらしい若手の作家です。2011年、琉球銀行の紅型コンテスト、デザイン賞を取りました。現在、古里の大分県に帰って、自分の工房を立てています。
